Friday\, October 21 the Book Sale begins at 6:30 PM and the program follows at 8:00 PM. The presenter is Art Foley and he will speak about composer George F. Root who composed many of the classics we associate with the 1850's and 1860's. Root was a popular song writer in his day and was influenced by the Civil War. In 863 he wrote\, "The First Gun Fired\," and then in 1864 he composed "The Battle Cry of Freedom." Other songs attributed to Root were\, "Tramp\, Tramp\, Tramp\," and "The Vacant Chair."
