Description
Saturday, Jan. 7 at 2:00 PM in the Glen Ellyn History Center, 800 N. Main Street, actor and historian Terry Lynch presents the story of Andrew Carnegie. This great man led the expansion of the steel industry during the late 19th century, becoming one of the wealthiest men in America. He retired in 1901 to become a philanthropist advocating for his gospel of wealth. This meant that wealthy people were obligated to give money back to society. Lynch describes Carnegie’s philanthropic efforts, interest in education and world peace that led to the establishment of free public libraries. Refreshments are served. Tickets at the door. $10 for adults, $8 for GEHS members and $5 for students. Call 630-469-1867 and check website at gehs.org.
