Description
Glen Ellyn Historical Society Presents The Remarkable Women Who Helped Build Chicago Historian Laurie Russell presents a program at the Glen Ellyn History Center, 800 N. Main Street, on Saturday, March 23 at 2:00 PM. Her topic is about the stars on the Chicago Flag. These stars represent 4 major events that changed Chicago forever. They are: Ft. Dearborn Massacre, Chicago Fire, World’s Columbian Exposition, and Century of Progress World’s Fair. She explains how women responded to these events and in the process built the city we know today. Women are included who risked their lives in the Underground Railroad, built hospitals and schools, contributed to the arts, created the progressive women’s club movements and more. Admission to this program is $5 adults, $3 GEHS members, and $3 students. Call 630-469-1867 and check the website at www.gehs.org.
