Glen Ellyn Chamber of Commerce
Director of Marketing & Events
Reports To: Executive Director
Status: Full-Time, [Exempt], 36 hours/week
Schedule: Core weekday hours, plus regular evening and weekend hours required to staff Chamber events

Position Summary

Director of Marketing & Events drives the visibility, membership value, and revenue of the Glen Ellyn Chamber of Commerce by leading the Chamber's marketing and communications and by planning and executing its full calendar of monthly and annual events. This is a full-time role with broader event-leadership responsibility than the Chamber's previous part-time marketing position, and it works closely with the Executive Director and Chamber staff to grow the organization's programs and sponsorship revenue.

Key Responsibilities

Marketing & Communications
  • Lead the Chamber's marketing and communications strategy, including social media (Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn), the website, and print advertising, and present strategy updates and campaign results to the Executive Director.
  • Create and schedule content for social media, weekly newsletters/eblasts, and the Community Guide and other print publications.
  • Manage and grow the Chamber's social media presence: monitor engagement, respond to comments and messages, run hashtag campaigns, and promote events across channels.
  • Keep the website current — events, programs, and member/sponsor information — and build out new pages as needed (e.g., Women in Business).
  • Coordinate advertising opportunities and manage relationships with local print publications within the advertising budget.
  • Support members and sponsors with their own social media promotion related to the Chamber.
Event Planning & Execution
  • Take the lead, in collaboration with the Executive Director, on planning and executing monthly programs: Membership Meetings, Business After Hours, Women in Business Quarterly Meetings, WIB After Hours, and Ribbon Cutting Ceremonies — including venue and topic selection and confirming hosts.
  • Serve as lead staff liaison to event committees and collaborate with Chamber staff on annual events (Installation of the Board, Community Awards, Talent & Opportunity Expo, Golf Outing, Taste of Glen Ellyn, Steak Fry, Halloween, Empowering Women in Business Expo/Luncheon, Holiday Walk).
  • Secure and manage event sponsors, and identify new revenue opportunities across marketing activities and events (added sponsorships, paid eblast placements, etc.).
  • Produce event materials: registration forms, programs, flyers, signage, posters, and banners.
  • Work events on-site — registration, setup, and greeting attendees — and maintain the events calendar on the website and in ChamberMaster.
  • Maintain and update annual event timelines in collaboration with staff to keep every event on track for its deadlines.
Administrative Support
  • Provide front-line customer service, including answering phones, with a positive, solutions-oriented attitude.
  • Process the Chamber's Gift Certificate Program.
  • Collaborate with staff on the Annual Membership Directory.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • At least two years of experience in a non-profit or membership organization preferred; Chamber of Commerce experience and familiarity with the Glen Ellyn business community highly desirable.
  • Strong writing skills and hands-on social media experience.
  • Highly organized, with strong interpersonal skills and the ability to manage multiple deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Photography skills preferred.
  • Available to attend the majority of Chamber events, including evenings and weekends as needed; able to lift materials periodically for event setup.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Annual salary: $45,000–$47,000.
  • 36 hours/week, plus occasional evening/weekend hours to staff events (Mon-Thurs 8-4pm, Fri: ½ day).
  • Paid Time Off: [1 hour PTO per 36 hours worked — accrues to roughly 7 days/year + Major Holidays].
  • Paid Holidays: Memorial Day, 4th of July, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day, and paid week off during the week of Christmas Eve – New Years Day when the Chamber office is closed.
    • Monthly phone reimbursement: $75/month.
