DESCRIPTION:
The Glenbard Wastewater Authority (“the Authority”) is seeking qualified candidates for the full-time position of Plant Electrician. The job duties of the Plant Electrician include but are not limited to perform skilled electrical work in the maintenance, repair, installation and calibration of equipment and devices at the wastewater treatment facility; to provide electrical related services at the Glenbard Wastewater Authority stormwater treatment plant and lift stations as necessary; to perform other electrical and instrumentational maintenance work as needed; and to provide responsive, courteous and efficient service to the residents of the Villages of Lombard and Glen Ellyn and the general public.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Maintain, repair and test electric motor control centers including starter repair and replacement, control circuit repairs, wiring inspections, current and voltage measurements and infrared thermal scanning.
- Maintain, repair and test emergency power systems.
- Maintain, repair and test electric motors including A.C. variable frequency motor drives and associated support equipment; maintain, repair and test power rectifiers, power inverters, numerous electronic circuits, relay logic control, and pneumatic level measurement system and hydraulic valve system control.
- Maintain, repair and test the process and control systems of the cryogenic air separation plant; perform detailed work in pneumatics and electronics relating to temperature and pressure, flow and level measurement, transmission, recording, vibration monitoring, valve position and speed measurement.
- Maintain, repair and test electrical power distribution systems including medium voltage (13.2kV) switchgear, distribution feeders, transformers and safety systems. Perform work on automatic power transfer switches, and circuit breakers; perform wiring inspections, fuse and transformer replacements; repair or replace conduit and wire.
- Assist in the design of and install power distribution and control systems for new equipment; classify hazardous locations; calculate equipment loads; specify type and size of protection devices, transformers, conduit, current carrying conductors, control devices, electrical enclosures, and conduit routing and mounting requirements; lay out and fabricate control panels.
- Maintain, repair and replace electric motors; test, inspect and replace, as necessary, winding, bearing and end bell; perform current measurement, infrared temperature scanning, and coupling, sheave and belt alignment, inspection and replacement as necessary.
- Maintain, calibrate, repair and install a wide variety of wastewater process control and safety equipment including atmosphere monitors, gas analyzers, combustible/toxic gas detectors, magnetic flow measurement and recording systems, ultrasonic & radar level measurement systems, temperature measurement equipment, automated valve controls and automated pump controls.
- Inspect newly installed equipment to ensure safe and reliable operation.
- Maintain, repair, test and replace HVAC equipment and associated controls including heat pumps, electric and gas forced air unit heaters, baseboard heaters, submersible heaters, air conditioning units, radiant heating systems, roof top exhaust and supply ventilators and electric and pneumatic temperature control systems.
- Read and interpret plans, blueprints and schematic drawings to determine design and installation information.
- Research and purchase equipment, replacement parts and supplies for plant electrical equipment.
- Maintain accurate records of the purchase, maintenance, calibration, repair and testing of equipment; maintain accurate records of vehicle usage.
- Oversee the construction of forms and finish concrete related to electrical installations.
- Coordinate Lock Out/Tag Out program and perform employee training in Lock Out/Tag Out.
- Prepare and distribute information to plant personnel regarding new equipment operating procedures or changes.
- May participate in development, safety, or other committees, either internally to the Authority, the Village of Glen Ellyn, or related associations.
- Assist Mechanical and Operational employees as assigned by the Electrical Superintendent.
- Assist in training of Mechanical and Operation employees in proper use and maintenance of electrical and electronic equipment ensuring safety practices are clearly understood.
- Participate in training executed by Mechanical and Operations employees in areas related to those specific fields.
- Exercise functional and technical training for Mechanical and operations Divisional employees for preventive/predictive electrical and electronics maintenance tasks.
- Participate in maintaining database for equipment maintenance program.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
- High school diploma supplemented by additional specialized training in electrical work.
- Associates of Applied Science technical degree in Electrical/Electronic Technology, Industrial Maintenance Technology, Electrical/Electronic Automation, Process Control and Instrumentation Technology, or Electrical Apprenticeship Program is preferred.
- Minimum of four (4) years of increasingly responsible experience in performing skilled electrical work in the maintenance, repair, installation and calibration of equipment and devices at the wastewater treatment facility or comparable industry is strongly preferred, however, lesser experience will be considered dependent on qualities, education, or relevant experience.
- Candidate with strong electrical/controls/instrumentation skills is preferred
- Candidate with information technology skills or experience is a plus but not required. Examples of some skills would be providing first-line support with hardware, software, or network issues; maintain and monitor an inventory of personal computers/servers; assisting in IT related projects; working with support providers; or assisting with license/support renewals.
- An equivalent combination of training and experience which demonstrates the required knowledge, skills and abilities will be considered.
- Possession of or ability to obtain necessary safety certifications and training, such as First Aid, CPR, confined space, etc.
- Valid driver’s license required at time of hire.
- Applicant must possess or have the ability to obtain within 1-year of hire date, a valid Illinois Commercial Driver's License (CDL) Class A or B driver's license with No Restrictions (Full Air Brakes). The Authority will provide the training necessary to obtain if needed
- Must be a self-starter, and possess the ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, with a variety of stakeholders (e.g. residents, employees, senior management, and elected officials).
- Proven ability to think quickly on their feet and be able to use good judgment in effectively defining and solving problems.
- Must be able to effectively prioritize work.
- Candidates must be computer savvy and be experienced with MS Office software suite (e.g. Word, Excel, Outlook). Familiarity with personal computers (PC's), Smartphones, and SCADA systems (PC and iPad applications) is strongly desired
- Prior experience with a computerized maintenance management system is preferred
- Ability to read schematics and working knowledge of National Electrical Code is required.
- Must have the ability to work independently, as part of a team, and be a highly motivated self-starter.
- Knowledge and application of standard OSHA safety practices for industrial and general industry; interpret SDS sheets, safety manuals, and warning labels.
- Qualified applicants should demonstrate the ability to multi-task and work in fast-paced environment. Applicant must exercise good judgment, effectively solve problems, have excellent organizational and time management skills and be detail oriented.
The duties of this job include physical activities such as stooping, kneeling, standing, reaching, walking, lifting and/or move (up to 75 pounds), grasping, talking, hearing/listening, seeing/observing, and repetitive motions. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close, distance and peripheral vision; depth perception; and the ability to adjust focus. Must be able to work in malodorous, nauseating and dangerous work conditions. Must be able to withstand inclement weather such as snow, cold, rain, heat, humidity, sun, etc.
SALARY/BENEFITS:
This is a full-time, exempt position with full benefits and participation in the Illinois Municipal Retirement Fund (IMRF), a defined benefit retirement plan. Actual starting salary is negotiable, and will be dependent upon qualifications, experience, and professional achievement. The current salary range for this position is $70,931 to 99,304 (Grade J).
