Description
Saturday, February 27, the Glen Ellyn Historical Society presents the program, `Sears Homes of Chicagoland, from 1908 to 1942`
The location is the Glen Ellyn History Center, 800 N. Main Street and the time is 2:00 PM.
Architectural enthusiast and founder of Sears Homes of Chicagoland, sears-homes.com, Lara Solonickne leads her audience through the story of the Sears Homes.
From 1908 to 1942, Sears Roebuck and Company sold about 65,000 ready-to-build kit homes through catalogs. Despite the rash of tear-downs in the Chicago area, some of these houses have managed to survive. These homes are undiscovered treasures that are hidden in plain sight. Solonickne`s presentation features the kit homes still standing in Glen Ellyn and neighboring communities. She'll explain how to identify and authenticate a Sears home and what makes them historically significant.
Tickets may be purchased in advance at Stacy`s Corners Store, Tues. through Sat, 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM, or on the day of the program if still available. $10 Adults $8.00 GEHS Members $5 Students 18 and under.
