“IMPURE“ is a coming-of-age story that addresses the issue of “period shaming”. Inspired by a true incident in Kenya, it is based on the story of a young girl who tragically took her own life after facing ridicule from her teacher and classmates for getting her first period at school.
The movie sheds light on the taboo surrounding menstruation and aims to highlight the harmful consequences of staying silent about such experiences, which often lead to degradation and shame for many girls and women.
International Neighbors, Inc. is a Glen Ellyn based nonprofit organization supporting menstrual pad making and adolescent health information in West Africa.
