DESCRIPTION:

The Village of Glen Ellyn is seeking qualified candidates for the full-time position of Staff Accountant. The job duties of the Staff Accountant include, but are not limited to, performing advanced professional level duties and responsibilities in the field of accounting; preparing and maintaining account ledgers, reporting of financial data, formulating reports and reconciliations; processing liability and workers compensation insurance claims; assisting with special projects and providing efficient and courteous service to Village residents, employees and the general public.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Completes month end reconciliations; identifies and prepares journal entries; prepares financial reports.
  • Analyzes documentation to ensure accounts reconcile at month end.
  • Prepares audit materials; prepare and organize financial reports and records.
  • Prepares flow bill contributions.
  • Reviews accounting and financial documents to ensure accuracy of information and calculations and makes correcting entries; examines supporting documentation to establish proper authorization and conformance with contracts and other agreements, policies and appropriate regulations.
  • Completes complex reconciliation on escrow account and restoration deposits.
  • Acts as a liaison to coordinate insurance renewal for liability coverage.
  • Investigates and procures restitution for damage to village property files and tracks general and liability claims; coordinates with insurance carriers.
  • Identifies and records Fire SSA18 property tax contributions and coordinates payments; maintains documentation and records of payment.
  • Prepares tax revenue collections spreadsheet based on tax levy appropriations of collections; tracks and monitors tax revenue collections.
  • Contributes to the overall quality of the department's service provision by developing and coordinating work teams and reviewing, recommending, and implementing improved policies and procedures.
  • Demonstrates courteous and cooperative behavior when interacting with the public and staff; acts to promote a harmonious and effective workplace environment.

 

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

Candidates applying for this position must possess a bachelor’s degree in accounting or related field, along with two (2) years of professional experience, OR an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. 

The Village is seeking a candidate who maintains a professional demeanor when dealing with the public and the ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, with a variety of stakeholders (e.g. residents, employees and senior management). The position requires the ability to instruct and train in methods and procedures; work independently, efficiently plan work and establish priorities; along with comprehend, retain and apply Village, State and Federal polices and legislation.  

The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate previous experience using enterprise financial/accounting software systems; prior experience using MUNIS (Tyler Technologies) would be ideal.  Candidates must be computer savvy, and have excellent MS Office software skills (e.g. Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint).

 

WORK SCHEDULE

8:00 am to 4:30 pm, Monday through Friday with occasional additional hours required.

 

SALARY/BENEFITS:

This is a full-time, non-exempt position with full benefits and participation in the Illinois Municipal Retirement Fund (IMRF), a defined benefit retirement plan. Our comprehensive benefits package also includes health, dental, and vision insurance, life/AD&D coverage, flexible spending, transit, a 457 deferred compensation plan, paid time off, a wellness incentive program, and tuition reimbursement. The salary range for this position is $70,932 to $99,304 / year (Grade J), with an anticipated starting salary of $70,932 to $85,118 depending on qualifications.
