1st Assistant Golf Professional

DESCRIPTION:

The Village of Glen Ellyn is seeking qualified candidates for the 1st Assistant Golf Professional position at the Village Links of Glen Ellyn. This position manages the Village Links Player Development Program, including the selection, training, supervision, and scheduling of teaching assistants. The 1st Assistant Golf Professional will also assist the Golf Operations Manager with league and tournament play and serve as a shift supervisor during the off-season for the Player Development Program. The ideal candidate will be a passionate ambassador for the game of golf and the PGA of America.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Manage and oversee the Village Links Player Development Program during the golf season.
  • Provide expert golf instruction, equipment advice, and rules interpretation to golfers of all skill levels.
  • Assist the Golf Operations Manager, Head Golf Professional, and Director of Golf in implementing policies and procedures that enhance the guest experience.
  • Regularly engage with guests to ensure an outstanding experience.
  • Manage and execute golf outings to a high standard.
  • Assist the Head Golf Professional with merchandising and monthly inventory management.
  • Assume responsibility for golf operations in the absence of the Director of Golf, Head Golf Professional, and Golf Operations Manager.
  • Perform Golf Supervisor duties as assigned.
  • Answer phones to schedule tee times and address questions related to golf course operations.

 

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Class A PGA of America Member or Apprentice
  • Bachelor’s degree or four (4) years of relevant experience/training; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Valid Illinois Class D Driver’s License required at the time of hire.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience in the golf industry, including at least two (2) years of supervisory experience.
  • At least two (2) years of experience teaching golf lessons in individual and group settings, either alone or as the lead instructor.
  • Must be at least 21 years of age.
  • Strong knowledge of the Rules of Golf and World Handicap System.
  • Ability to maintain a professional demeanor and communicate effectively with customers, employees, and the general public.
  • Proficiency with MS Office Suite and point-of-sale systems.

 

WORKING ENVIRONMENT

This position requires work in both indoor office settings and outdoor environments with exposure to varying weather conditions. Duties include physical activities such as standing, walking, reaching, lifting up to 20 pounds, and frequent use of standard office equipment.

 

SALARY/BENEFITS:

This is a full-time, exempt position with full benefits and participation in the Illinois Municipal Retirement Fund (IMRF), a defined benefit retirement plan. Our comprehensive benefits package also includes health, dental, and vision insurance, life/AD&D coverage, flexible spending, transit, a 457 deferred compensation plan, paid time off, a wellness incentive program, and tuition reimbursement. Actual starting salary is negotiable, and will be dependent upon qualifications, experience, and professional achievement.   The current salary range for this position is $55,575 to $77,805 (Grade E).
